Donald Trump sides with Gavin Newsom, overrules FEMA, declares major disaster in California
Last Friday, President Donald Trump did the good deed of overruling the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) decision to deny federal assistance to the residents of California who’ve been taken through the ringer by the raging fires that have burned over 4.1 million acres, cost of $200 million in property damage, and claimed 37 lives.
“Today, President Donald J. Trump decided that a major disaster exists in the state of California and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by wildfires beginning on September 4, 2020 and continuing,” is what the president’s statement said.
The assistance the feds will be providing to the folks in California will include help with housing, fixing and repairing property damage, and helping businesses and families bounce back.
Lizzy Litgrow , who works for FEMA as the agency’s press secretary, fixed her lips to tell the folks over at abc News that they decided to deny the good decent folks of California the much needed assistance they need because the agency didn’t think they needed the assistance.
Let Lizzy Litgrow and those FEMAers tell it, American citizens who call California home can get help from their insurance companies.
“…we cannot stress enough, insurance is always the most frequent financial source of help after disasters. If someone has insurance, they should file a claim immediately. The faster they file, the faster their recovery can begin,” is what Lizzy Litgrow fixed her lips to say to the abc News folks.
Anybody who’s dealt with the insurance companies knows that it isn’t as easy as ol’ Lizzy Litgrow girl is trying to make it sound. The insurance companies are notorious for using the “acts of God” excuse in order to deny legitimate claims.
“Acts of God” can’t be controlled because the acts are, well, “acts of God.” Hurricanes, floods, and fires come under the “acts of God” category.
A hurricane comes and you need a new roof. Sorry for you. A flood comes and your entire basement needs to be guted. Sorry for you. A fire rages through the backwoods and engulfs your barn. Sorry for you.
“Sorry for you,” is the insurance industry’s motto. And it’s all the people in California who’ve been impacted by the raging wildfires will be hearing.
A major problem Californians are facing is that no one has narrowed down the exact cause of the fires that occur year after year after year.
Sometimes the fires are started by humans, other times the fires are started by non-humans; “acts of God” is what the insurance companies calls the latter.
Then there are the times when the human fires and non-human fires are all started at the same time in different locations. The fires get all intertwine up there together, while doing the fire dance, which leads to nobody really knowing which fire was started by who, what, when, where, or how.
The science folks say they don’t give a penny on a dime about who or what started the fires because the humans have turn California’s dirt into a fire starter with all of that CO2 and other stuff that they’ve sent up in the air.
The not so science folks, however, say that the humans’ bad management of the forest is what’s turning California into a Kansas City barbeque pit.
The uncertainty about who, what, when, where, how, and why the fires started is what leads the insurance companies to just chalking up the damages to “acts of God” which keeps insurance companies from having to charge policy holders higher premiums in order to cover the hefty costs of the damages. So everybody, with the exception of the poor fellas and gals who’ve lost everything, are happy, happy, happy.
Lizzy Lithgrow and FEMA know this, but they don’t care. And they don’t care because they think they’ve done so much and now is the time to take the so much away from the American citizens who call California home and whose lives have been upended by those raging fires that have just been on a bitch trip. “I mean, what more do they want us to do,” is what Lizzy Lithgrow and FEMA be like.
Thank goodness the president placed his little tiff with Gov. Gavin Newsom aside and decided to listen to the gov and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy tell him why the “so much” that the federal government has done won’t be nearly enough to get California back up and running again.
